An expedition in abstraction based on the COVID Chaos and Tavarua Kava Jazz Series inspired by Santoré’s first person mid century memories of explosions of colors, composition & design culture.

In my artistic journey, I embark on an expedition in abstraction, weaving together diverse influences that span time and space. My creative exploration is guided by the tumultuous era of COVID Chaos and the captivating Tavarua Kava Jazz Series, which serve as catalysts for my artistic expression. Additionally, I draw inspiration from the vivid memories of explosions of colors, compositions, and design culture witnessed firsthand by Santoré during the mid-20th century. By examining and comparing these elements, I establish a connection with the New York abstract expressionist and pop artists of the 1960s, as well as the vibrant pop colors of the “jet age.”

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our world cannot be overstated. The chaos and uncertainty it unleashed served as an unexpected muse, compelling me to delve into abstraction to capture the emotional turbulence of the era. Through bold brushstrokes and dynamic forms, I translate the confusion, fear, and resilience that defined this period into visual narratives. The interplay of colors and textures represents the complex interconnections between individuals and the global community during times of crisis.

Simultaneously, the Tavarua Kava Jazz Series emerges as a source of inspiration, infusing my work with rhythm and musicality. This fusion of visual and auditory stimuli intertwines in my artistic process, resulting in vibrant compositions that resonate with a pulsating energy. The Kava Jazz Series serves as a reminder of the power of collective experiences, encouraging viewers to immerse themselves in the harmonious interplay of color and sound.

In parallel to these contemporary influences, I draw upon Santoré’s first-person mid-century memories. Santoré, a witness to explosions of colors, composition, and design culture during that time, serves as a bridge connecting my work to the New York abstract expressionist and pop artists of the 1960s. Like the artists of that era, I explore the boundaries of abstraction, employing bold forms, gestural brushwork, and intense palettes to convey raw emotions and personal experiences.

Furthermore, I pay homage to the vibrant pop colors that permeated the “jet age” of the 1960s. These bright hues became symbols of the rapid technological advancements and cultural shifts taking place during that time.
